Cal Poly extends Hawaii’s losing streak

Matt Imhof tied a career high with 11 strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings and Reed Reilly earned his ninth save in Cal Poly’s 3-2 victory over Hawaii on Saturday night at Baggett Stadium in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Matt Cooper (2-4) worked his second complete game in the loss, giving up four hits in eight innings with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Cal Poly scored two runs in the first inning. Nick Torres hit a sacrifice fly and a throwing error by Pi’ikea Kitamura allowed a second run to score unearned.

Jimmy Allen tripled and scored in the sixth for the Mustangs (24-8, 6-2 Big West).

Austin Wobrock had two hits and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kitamura in the eighth to cut the Cal Poly lead to 3-2.

Imhof took a shutout into the eighth and walked Max Duval with one out. He hit Wobrock with a pitch to put runners on first and second and Tim Wise dropped Andre Real’s fly ball in left to allow Duval to score.

Reilly came on with one out and runners on second and third and gave up the sacrifice fly to Kitamura before getting Conner George to po out to short.

Hawaii fell to 7-24 overall and 2-6 in conference play.

The series ends on Sunday at 10 a.m. Hawaii time.
