Keep the long-sleeve shirts, sweaters and extra blankets out until Wednesday.

What the National Weather Service describes as “unseasonably cold air” will remain over the state for a couple more nights.

Cool, dry northwest and north winds are dropping temperatures across the state, forecasters say. Highs are expected to be in the 70s and lows at night have reached the 50s in some places.

“April is typically about 10 degrees warmer,” said Tom Birchard, a forecaster with the National Weather Service.

The winds will shift to the north today and trade winds will gradually return Wednesday.

But while we may see temperatures in the low 80s during the day on Wednesday, the night-time lows will still be in the 50s and 60s.

“By Thursday, it looks like the trades will be established enough to bring more typical April weather,” Birchard said.

A high surf advisory is in effect through 4 p.m. today and more surf appears to be on its way to north shores.

Thursday could  bring an out-of-season north swell with waves reaching warning level heights of 25-feet, Birchard said.
