UC Santa Barbara beats Hawaii in nonconference game

UC Santa Barbara rallied with seven runs over the final two innings to come back to trounce Hawaii 10-4 on Sunday afternoon in a nonconference game at Les Murakami Stadium.

Dalton Kelly tied the game with an RBI triple off Jon Flinn and Ryan Clark followed with a single off Flinn’s leg to score Kelly with the go-ahead run in the eighth for the Gauchos (14-12, 1-2 Big West).

Cameron Newell hit a two-run double and Kelly had a two-run single as UCSB scored five more times in the ninth.

Hawaii (7-18, 2-1) scored all four runs of its run in the fifth inning to lose after winning two of the three games that counted toward league standings.

Adam Hurley, who broke a 1-for-26 slump with a home run on Saturday, had two hits and scored once and Stephen Ventimilia went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for UH.

Scott Squier set a school record with five hit batters and lasted just four innings, giving up three runs on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

Squier hit the first two batters in the third and then gave up a three-run homer to Brandon Trinkwon.

Max Duval threw two shutout innings in his second outing out of the bullpen this season.

Conner George singled in the first to extend his hitting streak to nine games.

Domenic Mazza (1-0) picked up his firt collegiate win and Dylan Hecht struck out the side in the eighth.

Hawaii will hit the road for seven games beginning on Friday against No. 21 UC Irvine, which was swept by UC Riverside.
