Konawaena stunned top-seeded University High 25-21, 22-25, 25-10, 25-22, in the Division II quarterfinals of the New City Nissan/HHSAA Girls Volleyball State Championships on Wednesday at McKinley.
Sophomore Chanelle Molina put down a match-high 28 kills with five blocks and Kaela Avanilla and McKenna Ventura added 11 kills each for the Wildcats, the BIIF D-II regular season champs.
Freshman setter Celena Molina added 21 digs for Konawaena, which faces Waimeain the second semifinal tonight at McKinley.
Markayisha Masani led the Junior ‘Bows with 13 kills and 14 digs.
SAINT FRANCIS 3, SEABURY HALL 2
The two-time defending D-II state champion Saints downed the Spartans 22-25, 25-11, 25-20, 21-25, 15-11 to advance to tonight’s semifinal against Hawaii Prep at McKinley.
The match was a rematch of last year’s five-set Division II championship, and Saint Francis again had just enough to get past Seabury Hall, the No. 2 seed.
WAIMEA 3, RADFORD 2
The Menehunes outlasted the Rams 25-17, 22-25, 29-31, 25-14, 15-11 at McKinley to advance to an all-Neighbor Island semifinal against Konawaena tonight.
The unseeded KIF champions took the final two sets to down Radford, the No. 4 seed and OIA White champion.
HAWAII PREP 3, ROOSEVELT 2
Ka Makani outlasted the Rough Riders 21-25, 25-18, 25-11, 21-25, 15-12 in a quarterfinal match at Kaimuki. Hawaii Prep, overall BIIF D-II champs and the No. 3 seed, plays Saint Francis in tonight’s first semifinal at McKinley.
