Tourist is apparent drowning victim
Honolulu fire officials said a 52-year-old tourist from Japan was found dead early Monday in the shallow water off Kahala Beach.
Fire Capt. Tyler Chan said the woman appears to have drowned, but investigators are still trying to determine what happened.
Chan said the woman’s friend called emergency officials at about 4:30 a.m. Monday, saying the woman had gone for a swim overnight but didn’t return. Chan said the woman was found about two hours later about 150 to 200 yards offshore.
