Garden talk to cover uses for neem trees
Learn about the medicinal, insecticidal and water-saving benefits of the neem tree at a workshop from 10:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 15 at the Halawa Xeriscape Garden, 99-1268 Iwaena St.
Neem enthusiast Saleem Ahmed, a former East-West Center fellow, will demonstrate how the tree, its leaves and twigs can be used as an organic insect repellent and as a medicinal poultice to treat acne and open wounds, as well as its antifungal and antibacterial uses. Participants will get tips on how to care for neem trees and recipes for brewing a "tea" to help control insects. The event is sponsored by the Board of Water Supply and the Friends of Halawa Xeriscape Garden. The cost is $5 (free for Friends members).
The registration deadline is noon Sept. 14; email workshops@hbws.org.
