"Governor, teachers reach contract accord," Star-Advertiser, March 25:
» The headline on this story should read, "Union wins again and taxpayers pay." It’s in the cards. The state appears "hard line" while all the time it’s a ploy to fool the taxpayer.
» Teachers are taxpayers, too. … Teachers want what’s best, now and into the future, for you and your kids. Why all the vitriol and the us/them mentality when it comes to their futures?

"Postal workers protest cut in deliveries," Star-Advertiser, March 25:
» Mail service is dying a slow death. I would like the Star-Advertiser to expound on what Terry Kaolulo, president of the Hawaii Association of Letter Carriers, said; "For years we’ve been cutting and cutting and cutting," she said. "What we need to do is generate revenue. We need the freedom to compete." There may be some truth in her statement but she does not go on to elaborate what freedom to compete means. I would like to hear her story.
» Everybody is cutting back on everything in this country. Postal Service employees are not immune.

"City looks for plan for Haiku Stairs," Star-Advertiser, March 26:
» I think the hikers should be fined for entering a closed hiking trail, and if they need to be rescued, they should also pay. Do not make the city liable for more lawsuits. Remove the stairs.
» If they do open the trail for public use, they need to impose an entrance fee and a deposit in case the Honolulu Fire Department has to helicopter one of those hikers off the trail. I’m tired of paying for other people’s stupidity.
» There is nothing about the Haiku Stairs that makes them any more or less dangerous than Oahu’s other hiking trails. If you wanted to go by number of rescues, then Koko Head is probably the most dangerous and should be closed immediately.

"Same-sex marriage study gets initial approval," Star-Advertiser, March 26:
» Put it on the ballot! If the gay community is so confident that voters support them, this would help them.
» Had it been put up for a popular vote, would we have had civil rights in the southern states? Equality is a constitutional right.

"Honolulu Airport a hot place for hookups, dating website says," Star-Advertiser, March 27:
» Honolulu Airport is one of the worst airports in the country and the world. I can’t imagine wanting to hang around there.

"Lion King’ tickets go on sale Thursday," Star-Advertiser, Date:
» Why don’t we get new shows? "Lion King" is old hat already.
» Instead of focusing on whether shows are old or new, we need to focus on getting more shows to visit Hawaii. Not just for the sake of audience members but for our creative industries in Hawaii. This show hires local support crew and artists. Kudos to the governor and mayor for supporting this return. It demonstrates that Hawaii is supportive of other similar productions.

"Top cops join anti-pot rally," Star-Advertiser, March 28:
» Finally, a voice of reason in this obsolete debate. Marijuana and drugs are the problem of Hawaii, not an answer to its woes.
» I think it is inappropriate for the cops to organize a "show of force" like this to try to affect a law like this. They have no expertise on pot and have demonstrated a clear bias on the matter. It is their job to enforce the laws, not write the laws.
» We spend way too much time and money incarcerating pot smokers when those dollars and manpower could and should be spent more effectively on real crimes against society.
» Marijuana is going to be legalized — or at least decriminalized — here as well as across the nation. HPD’s grandstanding means nothing.

"Jay contemplates changes for Aloha Stadium seating," Star-Advertiser, March 28:
» University of Hawaii Athletic Director Ben Jay is trying to slow down the bleeding with this move. I’m afraid this is only a short-term move. Attracting a larger crowd by giving people a compelling reason to spend five to six hours at the stadium on a Saturday night is the only long-term solution.
» Ben Jay is a financial genius. He helped the athletic department at Ohio State make money every year, even though its sports programs were corrupt. We need to trust him and extend him plenny aloha.
