Hawaii junior golfers Eimi Koga and Allisen Corpuz are competing in Sunday’s qualifier for the LPGA Lotte Championship. Two golfers will earn their way into the 144-player field. Qualifying begins at 8 a.m. at Ko Olina Golf Club.
Koga, a Moanalua High School senior, won the 2011 state high school championship. She has also won a Hawaii State Junior Golf Association state title and the 2010 Junior World championship, and was part of Hawaii’s winning team at the Girls Junior America’s Cup last summer.
Corpuz, a Punahou freshman, just turned 15. She was runner-up twice at the Jennie K. Wilson Invitational — one of three Hawaii women’s majors — before she became a teenager. She is also the youngest to compete in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links, breaking Michelle Wie’s record by qualifying at age 10 in 2008.
Corpuz and Koga are the only amateur participants in the qualifier.
The second Lotte Championship runs Wednesday through next Saturday at Ko Olina. Ai Miyazato will defend her title against a field that includes Wie, Kraft Nabisco winner Inbee Park, New Zealand amateur Lydia Ko, world No. 1 Stacy Lewis, Juli Inkster, Paula Creamer, Se Ri Pak, Suzann Petterssen, Lizette Salas, Angela Stanford, Yani Tseng and Karrie Webb.
Natalie Gulbis will conduct the second annual Ladies First! free golf clinic Monday at 4:30 p.m. The first 300 participants get tournament tickets. The hourlong clinic will be on Ko Olina’s driving range.

Young shines
Boise State senior Hayley Young won the Cowgirl Classic by seven shots Wednesday in Chandler, Ariz. The Mid-Pacific Institute graduate also helped the Broncos to the team title.
It was Young’s first collegiate victory, and the first for a Boise golfer since 2005.
Young opened with consecutive 71s — her career low — and shot even-par 72 in the final round. Portland State’s Britney Yada (74—222), a Waiakea graduate, took third. Punahou graduate Monica Keo, playing for Seattle, closed at 85—252.

Australia’s John Hend broke into the top 200 in the world when he closed with a 64 to finish at 20 under and win over a field that included Ernie Els and Y.E. Yang. Cyr is playing in the Solaire Open this week in Manila.
>> Punahou freshman Mariel Galdiano tied for sixth at the Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic, which ended March 31 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. Galdiano, who qualified for the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open, shot 71-73-69 to finish five shots out of first. Former Hawaii resident Alexandra Kaui, a high school senior in Las Vegas, also tied for sixth. Hawaii’s Brittany Fan (150) and Hansol Koo (164) missed the cut in the American Junior Golf Association invitational.
