Hilo man dies from injuries suffered in July motorcycle crash
A 55-year-old Hilo man died Sunday from injuries he received more than a month ago when his motorcycle collided with a car.
Hilo police said Earl M. Arakaki died at 4:05 p.m. Sunday at Hilo Medical Center from injuries sustained in a July 13 crash.
Police said Arakaki was driving a 2007 Honda motorcycle and traveling north on Kinoole Street when a 67-year-old woman from Kailua-Kona driving a 2003 Honda four-door sedan and traveling south on Kinoole Street failed to yield and made a left turn in front of Arakaki.
Arakaki was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he died.
It is unknown at this time if speed, alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.
Police have reclassified the negligent injury case to a negligent homicide investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
