UH women’s basketball team wins at N. Arizona
The Hawaii women’s basketball team picked up its first win of the 2013-14 season with a 74-66 decision at Northern Arizona Sunday.
Coming off a 40-point defeat at Arizona State on Saturday, the Rainbow Wahine were crisp offensively and seized control late after the lead changed hands 14 times.
Kamilah Jackson led UH (1-1) with 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Sydney Haydel added 15 points, and Morgan Mason and Destiny King scored 10 apiece.
A day after making zero 3-pointers, the Wahine came back with 5-for-9 shooting from long range, and committed 14 turnovers, down from 26 vs. ASU.
Laura Beeman’s team hit a respectable 19-for-26 (73.1 percent) at the free-throw line and 41.7 percent from the field, while matching the Lumberjacks (0-1) of the Big Sky Conference evenly on the glass.
Ashleigh Karaitiana hit a 3 to beat the first-half buzzer, making it 33-32 NAU at intermission.

UH returns home for three games in the Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic starting Friday against Washington State.
