Hawaii sailors qualify for nationals
The Hawaii women’s sailing team finished in second place at the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference Women’s Championships on Saturday in Santa Barbara, Calif.
With the top-three finish, the Rainbow Wahine qualified for the national semifinals next week in Hampton, Va.
It was the third straight year UH finished runner-up at the PCCSC regatta. The Rainbow Wahine finished with 101 points, 28 points ahead of Santa Clara. Stanford breezed to the win with 61 points.
Madeline Kennedy and Katrina Berry sailed for UH in the A division, and Hanne Nagatani and Lindsay Stewart sailed in the B division.
UH sand volleyball team finishes season
Five UH sand volleyball tandems went 1-1 on the second day of the USA Volleyball Collegiate Challenge in Hermosa Beach, Calif., on Sunday.
UH’s Natasha Bell and Tai Manu-Olevao made it to the quarterfinals of the gold division.
In the bronze division, the Rainbow Wahine’s Ku‘ulei Zalopany and Nikki Miyashita advanced to the semifinals.
HPU sweeps Holy Names in softball
Chante Tesoro went 4-for-5 with four runs and four RBIs to lead Hawaii Pacific to a 25-4 PacWest Conference softball victory in the opener of a doubleheader sweep of Holy Names in Hayward, Calif., on Sunday.
The Sea Warriors (27-17, 16-11) collected 22 hits in the game. Winning pitcher Melissa Kirby and Amanda Wisdom combined on a six-hitter. In the second game, Alysia Maddison had two hits and two RBIs to lead HPU to a 5-3 win.
Holy Names dropped to 15-37 and 9-19.
Rainbow Warrior clinics coming up
The Rainbow Warrior Basketball Camp 2013 for kids is set for two sessions, May 29-June 1 and June 3-6, at the Manoa lower campus.
