Scattered showers, cool nights forecast for Easter weekend

Easter egg hunts today may need to take place in between passing showers as a weather system approaches the islands. But skies should clear over Oahu by Easter Sunday morning, National Weather Service forecasters say.

The approaching weather system should move over Kauai by this afternoon and Oahu tonight. But clouds and showers ahead of the front could bring scattered showers and locally heavy rain to the islands.

Most of the showers will be in windward areas. But the rains shouldn’t be as heavy or long-lasting as the storm that passed through earlier in the week.

The front may bring some rain to Hawaii island and possibly Maui County on Sunday.

But weather looks mostly cool and clear on Easter Sunday for Oahu and Kauai County.

Once the weather system passes, cooler, drier air with north winds will replace the clouds and rain.

The umbrellas can be put away, but there could be a need for extra blankets at night, with temperatures dropping into the low 50s in some places.

Surfers can expect a northwest swell with advisory-level 10- to 15-foot waves starting this morning. But north winds may make conditions less than ideal.
