Two people were arrested for allegedly assaulting police officers at Ala Moana Beach Park Monday morning.

It was the second time in less than 24 hours that there was an arrest for such an offense at the park. Police said they do not believe the two cases are related.

No one was seriously injured in either case. 

This morning, officers tried to arrest a man on warrants charges at about 8:30 a.m. The suspect, 27, resisted, shoving and punching the police officer, police said.

While the two were wrestling on the ground, the man’s girlfriend, 25, kicked the officer in the head, and then kicked a second officer in the legs as she was being arrested, police said.

Neither listed a local address and are believed to be homeless.

Police first approached the man on Sunday to inform him that he was violating park rules by possessing a dog there.

The officers sustained bruises and did not require hospitalization.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of two counts of first-degree assault on a police officer. The man was arrested pending one count of first-degree assault on a police officer. Both were also arrested for allegedly resisting arrest and warrant counts. 

On Sunday afternoon, a 26-year-old Makiki man was arrested after allegedly hitting a police officer who was trying to break up a fight at Ala Moana Beach Park.

Police said officers responded to report of a fight at the park at 4:30 p.m. During the fracas, the angry suspect grabbed the police officer, injurying him, according to a police report. Police said he was treated and released with minor injuries.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, third-degree assault, and harassment.
