Wahine soccer team wins weekend tourney
Chelsea Miyake made a penalty kick in the 103rd minute and the Hawaii women’s soccer team defeated Utah Valley 2-1 in double overtime tonight at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
UH (3-1) took the OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi tournament title and is off to its best start since the 2007 season. Sophomore forward Tiana Fujimoto was named tournament MVP after netting her fourth goal in four games in the first half.
The Rainbow Wahine took their lumps in the match, losing senior midfielder Rachel Domingo and sophomore midfielder Krystal Pascua to injuries in the second half. Freshman midfielder Alex Gerrain went to a hospital after the match with a concussion.
