Chef, author honor moms
Pick up your mom and head out to the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii on April 27 for "Inspired Food — the Roots of Hawai‘i Cuisine," a brunch and talk-story event with chef Alan Wong and author Arnold Hiura. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Described as a "special tribute to moms," the event has Wong and Hiura examining the roots of local cuisine. Guests will graze at tasting stations stocked by Wong, Pagoda Floating Restaurant, Nalo Farms, Choco Le‘a, Pavaraga Coffee and more.
Hiura is author of "Kau Kau: Cuisine & Culture in the Hawaiian Islands."

Le Guignol shutting down
Fans of the award-winning French restaurant Le Guignol should quickly make reservations for a final meal there. The restaurant is closing April 30.
Chef Travis Sutton, known as Chef Ala, took the helm of the family restaurant from his brother Shane in 2005.
In the venue’s 14 years, it garnered accolades for its cuisine.

Tour and dine with Titus Chan
Titus Chan, among the TV chef pioneers of the 1960s, shares his expertise during "Dinner with Master Chef Titus Chan," a program blending cuisine and culture, at Won Kee restaurant.
Chan will lead a brief tour of the Chinatown Cultural Plaza and host a 10-course Chinese dinner, by appointment, with 10-day notice.
