3 HGEA units reach tentative settlement with state

STAR-ADVERTISER

Negotiating teams for three Hawaii Government Employees Association bargaining units have reached tentative agreements with state and county government employers for the contract period beginning July 1 and ending June 30, 2015.

HGEA Units 2, 3 and 4 represent 15,709 blue-collar supervisory, white-collar supervisory and non-supervisory employees.

The terms of the tentative agreements include 4 percent salary increases for each year and a 60-40 employer/employee split on health insurance premiums.

The agreements must be ratified by membership vote, which will be held from Monday to Wednesday. Voting results are expected to be announced on Wednesday evening.

HGEA Executive Director Randy Perreira said negotiators worked hard to reach agreement on contracts that would improve the standard of living for employees who endured “four years of sacrificing to help our state and counties achieve financial stability.”

Negotiatings are still ongoing for Unit 6 (representing 843 educational officers), Unit 8 (2,347 professional and technical University of Hawaii employees) and Unit 13 (8,071 professional and scientific employees).

In addition, negotiations for Unit 9, which represents 1,681 registered professional nurses, were recently started, following an arbitration panel decision on the unit’s 2011-2013 contract.
