DON’T LET the absence of Matt Damon keep you away from "The Bourne Legacy," because Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross, like Bourne, is another superhuman spy and does just fine. He finds himself fighting for his life against the secret government agency that made him the violent killer he can be. The agency is now shutting down and wants to eliminate him and others involved in the project. A target is scientist Dr. Marta Shearing, played by Rachel Weisz. Cross saves her life, and they are off to Manila to get the medication he needs to survive. The action is fierce as they are tracked by foes and another killer superspy. A chase in Manila streets with the stars on a motorcycle is epic. …
"HAWAII FIVE-0 Revisited," an "Emme’s Island Moments" program that aired in May, will be rerun Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. on KGMB. Emme Tomimbang‘s show features people who were part of the original "Five-0" along with talent in the new series. A red-carpet premiere of the third season’s opening show will be held Sept. 23 on Waikiki Beach. … Emme and husband Jim Burns, both recovering from illnesses, had a 25th wedding anniversary dinner at Baci Bistro in Kailua on July 25. … Jimmy Borges, 77, appeared in reruns of both the original and new "Hawaii Five-0" shows Monday night on KWHE and KGMB, respectively. It was his first appearances in both versions. The KWHE show was filmed in 1972, and 40 years later Jimmy appeared in the new show. He was in 15 episodes of the original series. His only guest shot in the new series was this year. …
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Miss Hawaii 2011 Lauren Kealohilani Cheape, who turned 25 Aug. 16. Lauren, who ran unopposed in the state GOP House District 45 primary, dances hula Monday nights at the Halekulani’s House Without a Key and has strong links to the hotel. She is a descendant of Robert Lewers, who owned and opened the original Halekulani in 1907 as a residential hotel called Hau Tree. Lauren also is a descendant of James Hopper Peterson Sr., who founded Peterson’s Upland Farm in 1910, a family-run business that continues to supply fresh eggs to the community. …
THREE-TIME Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist Misty May-Treanor, a part-Hawaiian athlete, is pictured in action on Wheaties cereal boxes. Michael Phelps, the greatest Olympic medal winner of all time with 22, is also endorsed by General Mills and is pictured on Wheaties boxes again, as he was after the 2004 Olympics. …
