Highway closed after man found dead
Kalanianaole Highway in Waimanalo was closed Friday night in both directions between Hilu and Hinalea streets after a 45-year-old man was found dead on the side of the road, police said. Details of the incident, reported at about 8:05 p.m., were not immediately available.
Computers stolen from UH’s Moore Hall
Police are investigating the theft of several computers from offices at the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Moore Hall. Manoa Campus Security received a report at 6:30 a.m. Friday of multiple office break-ins, according to a UH alert.
Lifeguards save swimmer in Waikiki
Lifeguards rescued a swimmer who nearly drowned at about 3 p.m. Friday in Waikiki near the Kapahulu Groin.
Ocean Safety personnel said a boater contacted the Coast Guard, which contacted Ocean Safety.
The swimmer, who appeared to be in his late teens, was turned over to the Emergency Medical Services, which treated the teen and transported him by ambulance in serious condition to a trauma center.
Men sought for robbing girl in Waimanalo
Police are seeking two men who allegedly robbed a girl in a Waimanalo park Thursday night.
Police said the girl was sitting in a parked car when one of the suspects, believed to be in his early 20s, approached her armed with a knife just before 8 p.m. The suspect demanded money and allegedly cut the 17-year-old girl when she resisted. A second suspect, also believed to be in his early 20s, then punched another person in the car but wasn’t able to take anything from the second victim.
Both men fled before being apprehended. The girl was treated at a hospital for her wound and released.
Kalihi man charged in February robbery
Authorities charged Friday a 20-year-old Kalihi man with second-degree robbery for a Feb. 20 crime.
Police found and arrested Reggie Williander on Friday morning for allegedly robbing a 22-year-old man Feb. 20 in Kalihi. Bail was set at $15,000.
