Warriors lose another defensive lineman to injury
University of Hawaii defensive end Beau Yap will miss at least the rest of spring training after suffering a fracture in his right foot last week, UH coach Norm Chow confirmed this morning.
Yap, who is considered to be the Warriors’ best pass rusher, underwent surgery this past week. He suffered the injury during a defensive drill.
Chow said there is a possibility the rehabilitation could stretch into the summer. The Warriors open training camp on the first week of August.
The Warriors conducted the first two of 15 spring practices last week. They are on hiatus this week because of UH’s spring break. They resume practicing on Monday morning.
Yap is a natural defensive end who filled in at defensive tackle and nose tackle when the Warriors incurred numerous injuries on the defensive line during the 2012 season.
Yap’s injury further depletes the Warriors’ depth this spring. Defensive end Iuta Tepa, a transfer from UCLA, recently underwent back surgery. Hunter Thomson has been suffering from a groin injury. What’s more, defensive tackles Moses Samia, Siasau Matagiese and Calen Friel are recovering from injuries and being held out of contact drills.
