Beard offers scholarship
Kapiolani Community College culinary students have a new opportunity for financial support in a $5,000 scholarship sponsored by the Kahala Hotel and Resort through the James Beard Foundation.
Starting Monday, continuing or new students for the 2013-14 school year can apply for the scholarship through May 15 at www.jamesbeard.org/scholarships.
The resort raised funds last fall during its monthlong "Bon Appetit" tribute to Julia Child. It held a James Beard Foundation Dinner with a reunion of chefs from across the country who previously worked at the Kahala, including Ryan Loo, Colin Hazama and Warren Uchida.
The James Beard Foundation awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships last year.
