Vehicle fire makes leap to apartment
Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a two-alarm fire Saturday night at an Aiea apartment.
Fire crews were called to the two-story Wailuna Apartment Complex just after 9:30 p.m, where flames and smoke were coming from a second-floor unit and first-floor garage. Crews got the fire under control within 15 minutes, a fire official said.
Two adults were at the apartment but made it out with no injuries. However, the homeowner’s pet cat died.
The homeowner said that shortly after a friend came to visit her, they noticed flames coming from the engine compartment of his car, said a fire official. They attempted to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher but were unsuccessful.
No other units were damaged. Damage is estimated at $200,000.
