Nyssa Silbiger held one of 75 collected calcium carbonate blocks Friday in the ship's wet lab, at left. The blocks were left on coral reefs during the last visit to the Northwestern Islands. She will use the blocks to study the bioerosion rates of coral reefs, which is the natural erosion of the reefs after the coral dies.
