Though Christmas decorations in storefront windows this early in the season might elicit a "Bah, humbug!" reaction, there is one place where an early taste of the holidays is truly a pleasure to experience.
Each year in early October, A Cup of Tea, a Victorian tearoom restaurant and boutique in Kailua, puts the Christmas experience in full swing, decorating its space with ornaments, nutcrackers and an upside-down Christmas tree while seasonal music fills the air.
At 6 p.m. Oct. 25 the holiday spirit is in full bloom with the tearoom’s annual Tea and Scones night, featuring a Christmas tea blend, fresh-baked scones, jellies, lemon curd and clotted cream. The price is $9.95. More dates may be added depending on demand.
Part of proceeds from the evening will benefit Toys for Tots, and guests are asked to donate a toy as well.
Owner Darlene Pahed leaves the extensive decorations up through the middle of January so as many guests as possible can experience the festive rooms.
The venue offers meals of sandwiches, salads, soups and desserts.
Make reservations for Tea and Scones night at 230-8832. A Cup of Tea, at 407 Uluniu St., is open Tuesdays to Saturdays.
