Gov. Neil Abercrombie released a draft of a gay marriage bill and has asked legislators for feedback before deciding whether to call a special session. State House Democrats have scheduled a private meeting with Abercrombie and state Attorney General David Louie over the issue.

Gov. Neil Abercrombie left for Washington, D.C. Tuesday to discuss the impact of the partial government shutdown on Hawaii.

The governor, a former congressman, will meet with the state’s congressional delegation and some of his former colleagues.

Louise Kim McCoy, Abercrombie’s spokeswoman, said the governor had a previously scheduled trip to the East Coast that will now include a stop in the capital. The governor is expected back on Sunday.

Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui is acting governor in the Abercrombie’s absence.
