Sea Warriors rout Sunbirds in soccer
Erik Kemsies scored the opening goal and assisted on three others as Hawaii Pacific handed Fresno Pacific its first conference loss via a 5-1 victory in a PacWest men’s soccer match at Atherton Field on Monday.
Kemsies’ goal came in the eighth minute, and the freshman midfielder also assisted on goals by Felipe Silva and Dylan Hardie-Jordan that gave the Sea Warriors a 3-1 lead. HPU (6-3-2, 4-1-1) put the match out of reach with second-half goals by Hardie-Jordan and Silva. FPU dropped to 7-3-1 and 5-1.
>> Ashley Tallon chipped in a shot over the head of Hawaii Pacific goalkeeper Anu Kahele-Manners in the 42nd minute to lift Fresno Pacific (5-4-1, 3-2-1) past Hawaii Pacific (4-7, 2-4) in a PacWest women’s soccer match at Atherton Field on Monday.
>> Dominican’s Lauren Gollnick scored the match’s lone goal in the 35th minute to give the Penguins a 1-0 victory over Chaminade on Monday at the Saint Louis School field.
The Silverswords dropped to 0-10 overall and 0-6 in the PacWest. Dominican improved to 6-5-2 and 3-3-1.

Mitnick’s goals came in the 35th and 61st minutes for the Penguins (4-7-2, 2-4-1). The Silverswords (0-10, 0-6) outshot the visitors 32-18 and had a 14-7 edge in shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Yonha Andrabi had five saves for the Vulcans (3-6-1, 1-5-1) in the loss to the Argos (4-5-1, 2-2-2).
>> A goal early in the second half by Kristine Pasek was all Hawaii Hilo needed to top Notre Dame de Namur in a PacWest women’s soccer match at UHH field on Monday. Pasek scored in the 52nd minute for the Vulcans (7-3-1, 4-3) against the Argos (4-7-1, 2-3-1).

Chaminade hosts coaches clinics
Two-time Olympian and Naismith Hall of Fame inductee Nancy Lieberman, and Maui Invitational tournament chair Dave Odom, who won three NIT championships, headline two Adidas Hoops Coaches Clinics hosted by Chaminade.
Also on staff are Chaminade men’s coach Eric Bovaird and Silverswords women’s coach Bobby Keanini. The free clinics are Oct. 24 from 5 to 9 p.m. at War Memorial Gym and Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at McCabe Gym.
The clinics are open to high school, middle school and community basketball coaches, ages 18 and older.

Seasiders remain No. 5 in NCAA D-II poll
There was no movement among the top nine spots in the AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll Monday, leaving Brigham Young-Hawaii at No. 5 for the second consecutive week.
The Seasiders (13-1, 8-1 PacWest) won both of their conference matches in four sets last week, defeating then-No. 22 (now No. 23) Fresno Pacific and Hawaii Hilo.
Remaining at No. 1 was Concordia-St. Paul, followed by Minnesota Duluth, Tampa and Central Missouri.
BYU-Hawaii’s Chen honored again
Brigham Young-Hawaii junior outside hitter Shih Ting Chen was named the PacWest Player of the Week, her third award this season.
She helped the fifth-ranked Seasiders to two victories last week, with a combined 37 kills, .361 hitting percentage, two aces, four block assists and 31 digs in 3-1 wins over Fresno Pacific and Hawaii Hilo.

HPU freshman goalkeeper cited
Hawaii Pacific goalkeeper Anu Kahele-Manners was named the conference freshman of the week after helping the Sea Warriors shut out Notre Dame de Namur 1-0 on Saturday.
Women’s honor roll
McKenzie Evans, BYUH: The sophomore forward scored the match winner in the 83rd minute of Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Dominican in Laie.
Ashlyn Ubongen, HPU: The junior midfielder out of Kauai High scored the match’s lone goal in the 89th minute to lead the Sea Warriors to a 1-0 win over Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday.

Pawel Dregan, BYUH: The freshman midfielder’s penalty kick in the 82nd minute lifted the Seasiders to a 2-1 conference win over Dominican on Saturday in Laie.

Men’s honor roll
Jorge Cisneros, CU: The Silverswords junior finished second at Saturday’s Hawaii Hilo Invitational, finishing the 5-kilometer course at the Naniloa Volcanoes Golf Course in 16 minutes, 6 seconds.
Kevin Miller, BYUH: The Seasiders junior won the individual title in 16:03, leading the Seasiders to first place at the Hawaii Hilo Invitational.
Women’s honor roll
Mary Botsford, HPU: The senior finished second overall at the Hawaii Hilo Invitational, timed in 19:47 on the 5K course at the Naniloa Volcanoes Golf Course.
Kami Dixon, BYUH: Won the Hawaii Hilo Invitational in 19:45, helping the Seasiders to the team championship.
