Man charged in kidnapping and assault
Police have charged a prison escapee allegedly involved in a Friday morning kidnapping and assault in Kapolei.
Leslie Dabis, 38, was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree escape and second- and third-degree criminal property damage. His bail was set at $400,000.
According to the Department of Public Safety, he is still in police custody but will likely be transported back to Oahu Community Correctional Center this morning.
Dabis was arrested Friday night in Kalihi after he and another man entered a Kapolei residence at about 8:30 a.m., assaulted a man and woman with a dangerous instrument and forcibly took the woman, police said.
The male victim was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Police said the female victim is Dabis’ ex-girlfriend.
Dabis had escaped from OCCC on Jan. 14.
The other suspect is an unknown man in his late 20s or early 30s. He is described as 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing 160 to 180 pounds, with short afro hair. He also has letters and "tribal" markings tattooed across his upper back.

Towing company office fire called arson
Fire crews responded to a trailer fire that damaged an office of Iron Horse Towing early Sunday morning in Kalaeloa.
A fire official said crews arrived at 91-1085 Enterprise Ave. at about 5 a.m.
Crews made a forcible entry into the trailer and had the fire under control and extinguished within 10 minutes.
The investigator classified the blaze as intentional and the case was transferred to an HPD arson detective.
Damage is estimated at $25,000.
