No tsunami from 6.1-magnitude quake off Russian Far East
No tsunami warning was issued after a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Russia, east of the Kuril Islands.
The quake hit at 6:18 p.m., Hawaii time, 166 miles southeast of Ozernovskiy, Russia, 169 miles southeast of Vilyuchinsk, Russia, and 1,451 miles northeast of Tokyo, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
The epicenter was at a depth of 5.6 miles.
A 6.7-magnitude quake struck in that same area, but on the other side of the Kuril-Kamchatka Trench, on March 1.
