1 suspect arrested in Kapolei kidnapping
Honolulu police arrested one suspect and are looking for a second in connection with an alleged kidnapping and assault Friday morning in Kapolei.
According to police, two men entered a Kapolei residence at about 8:30 a.m., assaulted a man and woman with a dangerous instrument and forcibly took the woman. The male victim was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Police believe the woman is still being held. Both victims are identified as being in their 30s.
An Emergency Medical Services report indicated the male victim was assaulted with a baseball bat.
Police arrested one of the suspects in the case, age 38, who escaped from Oahu Community Correctional Center on Jan. 14. He was located Friday night in Kalihi.
The other suspect is an unknown man in his late 20s or early 30s. He is described as 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing 160 to 180 pounds, with short afro-style hair and letters and tribal markings tattooed across his upper back.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call 911.
No one injured in Hilo house fire
One person escaped without injuries from a burning house early Friday morning in Hilo.
Damage to the single-story structure on Coconut Drive was estimated at $45,000.
The cause of the fire, which was reported at 12:20 a.m., is under investigation. The fire was brought under control at 12:50 a.m.
