North Shore surfer Fredrick Patacchia advanced into Round 3 of the Billabong Pro Tahiti on Friday at Teahupoo.
Patacchia will have his hands full when the World Championship Tour event resumes. He’ll be up against current No. 1 Mick Fanning of Australia.
Patacchia topped Bede Durbidge of Australia in Round 2 by putting up a two-wave score of 15.50 in clean 3- to 4-foot sets. Durbidge could only muster a 9.67.
Earlier in the day, Maui’s Dusty Paine lost his Round 2 heat to Jeremy Flores of France, 17.50-8.73.
John John Florence of the North Shore also will surf in Round 3, after winning his Round 1 heat on Thursday. Florence will be matched up against Brett Simpson of California.
