UH students alerted to possible gunman
The University of Hawaii got a real-life test of its emergency alert system Tuesday, just minutes after conducting a scheduled test.
Honolulu police notified Honolulu Community College that a man, possibly carrying a rifle, was seen on Dillingham Boulevard near the college at about 10:15 a.m.
HCC and the UH system sent out a security alert at about 10:36 a.m. warning students to be alert for a possible gunman wearing khaki shorts without a shirt.
The all-clear was issued at about 10:52 a.m., letting students know that police had checked the area and found no sign of a gunman.
The real-life security alert went out about 15 minutes after the test alert and began, "This is not a test."
