Hawaii launched a one-stop-shop website this week designed to help military veterans, active service members and their families find social services and store personal information online, the state Office of Veterans Services announced.

"This is a significant step forward in transforming government in the way it serves our returning veterans and their families," Gov. Neil Abercrombie said at a news conference.

"What used to be fragmented and sometimes confusing has now been replaced by an easy-to-use central resource that provides access to a variety of support tools, including a remarkable jobs board, directly to our active-duty and retired veterans," he said.

The Network of Care website offers users a directory of service providers that can be searched by county.

Visitors to the website can also type keywords into a search bar or choose from popular search topics that include "health care," "education," "housing" and "PTSD."

In addition to listing statewide services, Network of Care has libraries that contain information about various disorders and international news articles regarding veteran benefits, health information and substance abuse.

Service members and veterans have the option of creating a user name and password with the website so they can store online personal medical files along with useful articles and service links they collect from other areas of the site. They can also track bills moving through the state Legislature, view messages sent from doctors and correspond with support groups.

According to the website, information is stored with the same type of security used for online banking, and users can share access to their electronic files with their doctors, lawyers, family members or caregivers for specified periods of time.

The Network of Care website can be found at hawaii.net­work­of­care.org and is available in multiple languages.
