University of Hawaii athletic director Ben Jay said today he has already been contacted by an attorney for Gib Arnold to discuss an extension of the head basketball coach’s contract.

Arnold, who concluded his third season with a 69-65 CollegeInsider.com Tournament loss to the Air Force Academy on Wednesday, finished 17-15 (10-8 in the Big West Conference) and will go into the final year of his current three-year deal July 1st.

A 20-victory season would have guaranteed Arnold a one-year rollover of his $344,000-a-year deal, according to terms of the current contract.

Arnold was expected to head out on a recruiting trip this week.

Jay said he plans to meet with Arnold “after a while” to discuss the season and the future. “I want to see where he’s at in recruiting,” Jay said.

Arnold is 52-44 in three seasons at UH.
