Molokai police this morning arrested a 33-year-old man for the shooting death of his 24-year-old girlfriend in Kaunakakai.

The shooting occurred at just before 10 p.m. at Kawela Barns Apartments, located at 2626 Kamehameha V Hwy.

The victim was taken to the Molokai General Hospital in critical condition, where she died. Police did release the name of the victim.

Witnesses told police that the shooter was victim’s boyfriend, who fled the scene in a small Honda, compact vehicle heading east on Kamehameha V Highway.

Police later located the vehicle near his home in the area known as Honouliwai and the suspect surrendered himself.
