Ala Moana swimmer dies
A woman died Thursday after being taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition after she nearly drowned at Ala Moana Beach Park, according to the Honolulu medical examiner’s office.
Her identity has not been released.
The woman, 77, was taken to the hospital after experiencing problems at 6:37 Thursday morning at the beach park, according to Emergency Medical Services.

Man, 71, dies in South Kona hit-and-run
A 71-year-old Kealakekua man was killed early Thursday morning by a hit-and-run driver at Hawaii Belt and Hokukano roads in South Kona.
He was identified as Francisco Asuncion.
Kona police said he was walking north on the mauka shoulder of the belt road (Route 11) when a Nissan sedan struck him at 1:32 a.m.
The driver fled the scene.
Asuncion was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:54 a.m.
Police are looking for the dark-colored sedan. It should have damage to the front bumper, hood and possibly the windshield, police said.

This is the ninth traffic fatality on the island this year, compared with five at the same time last year.
Ocean search for Kilauea man to continue
A search for a Kilauea man off Ninini Beach will resume at daylight today.
Police have identified the man as Scott Akina, 55.
He was reported missing Tuesday, and air, land and sea searches turned up no sign of him Tuesday night, Wednesday or Thursday.
Personnel from the Kauai Fire and Police departments, the Ocean Safety Bureau, the state Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement and the Coast Guard took part in the search.
