Liquor chief quits law over violations
Honolulu Liquor Commission Administrator Greg I. Nishioka has resigned from practicing law and agreed to repay misappropriated money to clients, according to the state Disciplinary Board of the Hawaii Supreme Court.
It is unknown whether the resignation will have any effect on Nishioka’s job as administrator.
Before taking the job in 2011, Nishioka was an attorney at Nishioka and Fujioka. Nishioka’s resignation takes effect March 13.
Nishioka was unavailable for comment Thursday.
According to the order filed by the board on Feb. 11, Nishioka admitted to failing to act with reasonable competence or diligence in representing clients, failing to keep clients reasonably informed about the status of their matters and promptly complying with reasonable requests for information. The order also said Nishioka admitted commingling and misappropriating client funds, failing to promptly render accurate accountings, failing to return client files and to provide refunds upon request, and engaging in deceitful conduct, resulting in 47 separate violations.
