Szadovzski, Dolan unbeaten
Zsolt Szadovzski won the surf ski division for the fifth consecutive race and Pat Dolan ran his OC-1 record to 4-0 at Sunday’s Outrigger Zone-Pinky’s Kailua Bay Challenge.
Paddlers faced winds of 20-25 mph and high surf over the revamped long course that ran from Kaliua Beach to the Mokulua and Mokolea islets, and finishing up the Kawainui Canal. The field of 71 included a short course for SUP, OC-2 and SS-2.
Szadovzski finished the course in 56 minutes, 22 seconds, followed by Michael Beyer in 57:57. Dolan finished in 1 hour, 47 seconds, followed by Jimmy Austin in 1:03:03. The short course winners were Kawika Kaleleiki (SS-1, 35:45), Kyle Morgan (OC-1, 35:55), Will and Willie Reichenstein (OC-2, 32:42); Justin Nicols and Micah McGivern (SS-2).
The next event is the Hinano-Kialoa Coastal Relay on March 9.
Rodeo group hosts fun days
The Hawaii Women’s Rodeo Association hosts two gymkhana-style fundraising events this month with competition ranging from three-legged races to fox-and-hound chases.
The events are Saturday at Diamond J Ranch in Waianae and March 30 at DK Ranch in Waimanalo. Competition begins both days at 10 a.m. and is open to riders of all ages and skills.

Monthly bike clinic at KCC
Island Triathlon & Bike holds its monthly beginner’s bike clinic Sunday at the Kapiolani Community College parking lot on the Diamond Head side of the campus.
The free clinic runs from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. and includes drills, safety tips and an easy ride in Kahala, time permitting. Ride leader is certified instructor Frank Smith.

Canoe festival at Kualoa
Educational booths, activities and demonstrations are part of the fourth Kualoa/Hakipu‘u Canoe Festival March 9 at Kualoa Regional Park.
The festival will showcase master canoe builder Bobby Puakea and offer interaction with the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association, Polynesian Voyaging Society, Hakipu‘u Learning Center and Halau Ku Mana. The educational voyaging canoe Kanehunamoku is among the sailing vessels on display and Hawaiian Ocean Adventures will offer free sailing canoe rides.

‘Rally for Japan’ tennis festival
Some of the top junior tennis players in the state are helping organize "Rally for Japan," a youth tennis festival, March 9 at the Kalani High School courts.
The event runs from 1 to 3 p.m. and is open to ages 11 and under regardless of experience. The cost is $6 with proceeds going to Iwate Learning Hope Fund, which offers financial aid to children orphaned by last year’s tsunami in Japan. For information, go to japantr.wix.com/rallyforjapan.
