Chan and Kim tied for 84th at U.S. Amateur
Wailuku’s Taeksoo Kim and Honolulu’s Lorens Chan both shot 2-over-par 72 at the CommonGround Golf Course and have a share of 84th after Monday’s first round of qualifying for the 112th U.S. Amateur Championship.
The leader is Bobby Wyatt, No. 7 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He shot 7-under 64 at Cherry Hills, just outside of Denver.
Maui’s Alex Chiarella and Justin Keiley both shot 78 at Cherry Hills and are tied for 230th in the field of 312.
After today’s second round, the low 64 scorers advance to match play.
Kapolei in Little League softball semis
Kapolei scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning en route to a 6-1 win over New Hyde Park, N.Y., on Monday in the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Ore., to advance to today’s semifinals.
Breisha Wagner and Dallas Pollard-Brownell both went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored to lead Kapolei, which clinched second place in its pool with a 3-1 record. Cranci Kamaka struck out five and scattered five hits over six innings to earn the win.
Kapolei plays in the first semifinal game today against Anderson, Ind., at 1 p.m. The game will air on ESPN2.
