Noted watermen to be honored Aug. 23
Legendary watermen Brian Keaulana and Archie Kalepa are among those who will be inducted into the Hawaii Waterman Hall of Fame at a dinner on Aug. 23 at the Outrigger Canoe Club.
The two are joined by big-wave surfer and oceanographer Ricky Grigg, and the late Michael Tongg, who was instrumental in the growth of outrigger canoe paddling in Hawaii and internationally.
Also being honored are Hawaiian royalty who perpetuated the sport of surfing: the late Prince Kuhio, Princess Kaiulani and Prince David Kawananakoa.
This is the third class for the Waterman Hall of Fame, which began in 2010.
Table sponsorships seating eight are available for $3,500, $2,500 and $1,000, with individual seats at $65 each. Net proceeds raised will benefit the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation college scholarships and athletic grants program. Tickets and information are available at DukeFoundation.org.
