A group called “Joggin’ for Frogmen” will be running in today’s Hapalua half-marathon and collecting donations for the family of a Navy SEAL who disappeared during training off Kaena Point last month.
Race founder Dr. Jim Barahal said all donations will go directly to the widow of 33-year-old Matthew John Leathers of Woodland, Calif., and his three children, all under 10. So far, nearly $10,000 has been collected.
The start of the 13.1-mile Hapalua is at 6 a.m. at Waikiki Beach by the Duke Kahanamoku statue.
