Oceanic Time Warner Cable is expected to announce its 2012 University of Hawaii pay-per-view sports package next week, officials said Wednesday.
It will be the latest date that the package has been announced in more than a decade. It is believed the wait stems from parent company Time Warner’s ongoing negotiations with CBS College Sports, the Mountain West Conference’s TV primary rights holder.
UH has assured Oceanic of the availability of at least three games, Lamar, South Alabama and New Mexico, for pay-per-view while negotiations between Time Warner and CBS have been held on securing three others, Fresno State, Nevada-Las Vegas and Colorado State.
Fox has the rights to the Sept. 1 opener against USC, ESPN has the Brigham Young and Air Force games and CBS College Sports (San Diego State) and NBC College Sports (Nevada and Boise State) have the rest.
Under terms of UH’s $2.3 million annual deal with Oceanic, the school must make at least seven games available for pay-per-view or the company can renegotiate terms.
Meanwhile, Oceanic said it will carry the debuting seven-channel Pac-12 Network package as part of its digital sports pass.
The Pac-12 said its network will carry 35 football games and 851 events overall and will debut Aug. 15.
A Pac-12 spokesman said the network is also in talks with Hawaiian Telcom, "but we do not have an agreement at this time."
