No. 10 Hawaii sweeps Northwestern in volleyball
Senior hitter Emily Hartong led a balanced attack with a match-high 13 kills and No. 10 Hawaii easily won its fifth straight when sweeping Northwestern 25-12, 25-13, 25-19 in Friday’s second match of the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Volleyball Challenge at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Sophomore hitter Tai Manu-Olevao added nine kills with just one error, and freshman hitter Nikki Taylor added seven kills and six block assists for the Rainbow Wahine (7-1, 2-0 OHRVC). Hawaii seeks its third consecutive tournament title Saturday when taking on Arizona (7-1, 2-0) in the 7 p.m. finale
The Wildcats rallied past Portland State 21-25, 25-17, 25-19, 31-29 in Friday’s first match. Northwestern (4-4, 0-2) meets Portland State (3-6, 0-2) at 4:30 p.m. Saturday for third place.
Against Northwestern, Hawaii hit .451 with just six total errors in 90 minutes of play. The Wahine out-dug the Wildcats 38-27, led by senior libero Ali Longo’s 10.
Junior middle Kalei Adolpho added six kills with no errors in nine attempts. Sophomore middle Jade Vorster and Adolpho each had four block assists.
Stephanie Holthus led Northwestern with seven kills. The Wildcats hit .042 to the Wahine’s .451.

Arizona 3, Portland State 1: Madi Kingdon put down 22 kills and Olivia Magill added 12-4 to lead the Wildcats over the Vikings. Magill was in on 10 of Arizona’s 20.5 blocks and Kingdon had 17 of the team’s 90 digs.
Radford High product Kaeli Patton led PSU with 14 kills.
