Fuamatu-Anderson to coach Buffanblu
Tanya Fuamatu-Anderson, a former Hawaii Hilo All-American, has been named Punahou School’s head coach for girls volleyball.
Fuamatu-Anderson, who served as an assistant volleyball coach at Punahou since 2010, replaces Peter Balding, who will be on sabbatical next school year.
"I am grateful for this opportunity to be part of a great program and school," Fuamatu-Anderson said in a news release. "I am blessed to have had the chance to be mentored by Peter Balding, who is one of the best teacher/coaches of the game today. I look forward to building on the foundation that Peter started."
Fuamatu-Anderson was a four-year starter at UHH, where she was named NAIA Player of the Year in 1993, selected as Pacific West Conference Player of the Year in 1994 and 1995, and was a first-team AVCA All-American in 1995. She also served as assistant volleyball coach at Chaminade University (1996-2007) and played AVP professional beach volleyball from 2001 to ’07.
"With her leadership, passion and values, Tanya Fuamatu-Anderson is an exemplary role model for our student-athletes," said athletic director Jeaney Garcia in the release. "We are excited to welcome her as head coach, and know that she will contribute greatly to this exceptional program. We also thank Peter Balding for his years of commitment to the sport of volleyball at Punahou, and for creating a solid foundation for our students’ success."
