NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the return of the Pro Bowl to Hawaii for 2014.

“We are planning and we will play a game in Hawaii next year,” Goodell said during a press conference today at the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix.

The future of the game had been in doubt after a lackluster 2012 showing but the 2013 game at Aloha Stadium was praised by Goodell and NFL executives.

“We are grateful to the NFL for bringing the Pro Bowl back to Hawai‘i next year and we look forward to building upon our long-standing partnership well into the future,” Hawaii Tourism Authority president and CEO Mike McCartney said in a statement.

Goodell said the game will be played the week before the Super Bowl.

NFL.com reported today Goodell said the site of the annual all-star game could change in future years but expected Hawaii to be part of whatever rotation emerges.

The game has been held in Aloha Stadium since 1980 except for the 2010 game.
