Grand jury indicts woman driver in Kawela Bay fatal crash
The driver of a fatal head-on traffic collision on Kamehameha Highway near Kawela Bay last April was drunk, high and speeding, said Keith Seto, deputy city prosecutor.
The front seat passenger of the vehicle that caused the crash, Joshua Plandor, 24, of Haleiwa, died in the April 11 crash.
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment Thursdayday charging the driver, Nicole Marie Russo, with negligent homicide. The indictment also charges Russo with assault for causing the injuries suffered by the other driver.
Seto said in state court Thursday that Russo was speeding when her vehicle crossed the center line and crashed into another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. He said Russo’s blood alcohol content was 0.17, more than double the legal threshold for drunken driving, and that she also tested positive for marijuana.
