Reading program awards e-prizes
Eighth-grader Megan Tanabe, representing Liliha Public Library, won a Kindle Fire tablet at last week’s finale of the 2012 Hawaii State Public Library System and Hawaii Pizza Hut Teen Summer Reading Program at Kahala Mall.
She was the grand prize winner among 24 finalists from Oahu public libraries. A random drawing determined the top four winners.
Susan Shiroma (Aina Haina Public Library), won a NOOK Color e-Reader; Joseph Almuena (Kalihi-Palama) a Nintendo 3DS; and Tyler Kamei (Aiea), a Westinghouse 22-inch LED television. Library officials said more than 3,200 teens statewide participated in the annual Teen Summer Reading Program, which strengthens reading habits. Collectively, these teens read nearly 25,000 books.
Other finalists were David Tupper, Sarah Yip, Dustin Borromeo, Morgan Cameron, Grace Laudick, Lia Monica Reyes, Camille Yim, Lahaina Hipolito, Etalynia Jahier, Julia Holt, Rihui Yuan, Arielle Wilson, Cassidy Delos Santos, HaRim Koo, Keliam Brunn, Isaiah Hewitt, Chanralyn Croker, Iwalani Miehlstein, Angela Naleieha and Angelynne Utleg.
