No. 13 Rice stuns Hawaii with ninth-inning rally
Down to its final strike, No. 13 Rice rallied with three runs in the ninth inning to stun Hawaii 7-5 on Sunday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium.
Keenan Cook hit a 3-2 pitch from Lawrence Chew into left field for a base hit to score Skyler Ewing to tie the game at 5-all with two outs in the ninth.
Shane Hoelscher hit an infield single off reliever Bryan Burgher, who then walked Christian Stringer on four pitches and hit Michael Ratterree to force in another run.
Hawaii dropped to 0-7 overall while Rice won its third straight to improve to 5-2.
Starter Corey MacDonald retired the last seven batters he faced to give UH seven innings, allowing four runs on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Chew (0-1) allowed three runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings to take the loss.
