Man charged in 2 attempts of sex assault
Prosecutors charged a man with attempting to sexually assault a friend at her Mililani home Monday night, then 10 minutes later trying to assault a cashier at a convenience store.
Ryan Monte, 25, also a Mililani resident, was charged Wednesday with one count of first-degree sexual assault, three counts of third-degree sexual assault and two counts of kidnapping. He remains in custody in lieu of $75,000 bail, and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Friday.
The woman, 22, said the incident took place at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday. She and Monte were in her backyard drinking when he choked her, told her "not to make a sound" as he fondled her and tried to sexually assault her, a court document said. She told him to stop, and he fled when one of her friends arrived, the document said.
At 11:55 p.m., police said Monte went to the Mililani Town Center Tesoro convenience center.
The cashier, 25, said a man grabbed her, pushed her to an office door and tried to break into the office, the document said. She told him to stop as he allegedly tried to kiss her and asked if she would have sex with him. The woman said she and the man struggled while he groped her, ending up on the floor. She ran for help, while the man fled in his truck. Police arrested him at his home at 12:32 a.m.
