Space experts are gathering this week for a meeting on the future of Hawaii’s aerospace industry.

The Hawaii Aerospace Summit will bring together lawmakers, aerospace company officials, academics and military officers to discuss aviation and space research programs in the islands.

The executive director of the Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems says the industry has the potential to provide Hawaii with high-paying jobs.

Rob Kelso says officials hope to map a vision of the state’s aerospace industry that will help diversify Hawaii’s economic portfolio.

The meeting is scheduled to be held Tuesday at the state Capitol.
