6 sent to hospital after head-on crash

Five teenagers and a 42-year-old woman went to the hospital in serious condition Saturday after a head-on collision on Kaukonahua Road, paramedics said.

Three of the teens were thrown from the bed of a pickup truck.

The male teenagers, two of them 18 and three of them 17, were in a pickup truck driven by one of the 17-year-olds that collided with an automobile driven by the woman, the city’s Emergency Medical Services Division reported.

Police said the incident happened at about 6:10 p.m. along pineapple fields near the S-turn on Kaukonahua Road.

Police shut down Kaukonahua Road between Wilikina Drive and Thomson Corner for about 45 minutes after the accident.

The road was reopened at 7:12 p.m.
