Fink takes Pacific Coast title in playoff
Two-time Manoa Cup champion David Fink won a five-way playoff with a birdie on the fourth extra hole to capture the 46th annual Pacific Coast Amateur championship on Friday in Bandon, Ore.
Wailuku’s Taeksoo Kim was also in the playoff. Fink, an ‘Iolani grad, and Kim, out of St. Anthony, are about to begin their senior seasons at Oregon State and Boise State.
Both shot 2-under-par 70 in the final round at Bandon Dunes to finish at 7-over 291. Honolulu’s Lorens Chan, who held the first-round lead after firing an even-par 70 at the Bandon Trails course, closed with a 73 and was a shot out of the playoff.
The win gave Fink a sweep at the championship. His Pacific Northwest team won the Morse Cup, run in conjunction with the tournament’s first two rounds.
The tournament is one of the oldest amateur events on the West Coast. There were 84 players in this year’s field. Past champions include Billy Mayfair (1987 and ’88) and 2006 Hawaii state high school champion Chan Kim (2009).

Chin won 2 up over Canada’s Brendan Seys in the final, converting a 5-foot putt to clinch the victory.
The 13-year-old from Honolulu beat top-seeded Kyle McDonald 2 and 1 in his semifinal.
